The Strategic Partnership for Industrial Resurgence (SPIR)

The Strategic Partnership for Industrial Resurgence (SPIR) was established on July 1, 1994, by the State of New York to utilize the extensive engineering resources of the SUNY system (the Engineering Colleges and Programs at Stony Brook, Buffalo, Binghamton and New Paltz) to help industry in the State compete more effectively. SPIR fills a critical gap in existing State industrial assistance programs by providing technically advanced multidisciplinary assistance on a fast turn-around basis. The intent is to help companies improve their market posture, retain existing employees and create new jobs.

The Center for Biotechnology

The CAT in Medical Biotechnology is involved in the discovery, development, translation and commercialization of promising biotechnology resulting from academic research centers around the state of New York. This ranges from diagnostics to gene discovery, medical devices to therapeutics. Our staff is focused on helping faculty add value and leverage their research down a technology development pathway to augment the technological interests of the New York Bioscience industry.
The center works towards capitalizing upon the resources of New York's academic research institutions for the purpose of economic development in New York State. The Center identifies commercially promising technologies that will lead to accelerated product development cycles, increased corporate revenues, or new company formation.

The Sensor CAT

The Center's research and development (R&D) program is driven by the needs of New York State industry and includes magnetic, optical, X-ray, and infrared sensors; signal processing and image recognition; super-conducting electronics for sensor applications; DNA sequencing devices; and Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS)-based sensors and actuators.
Mission: To provide an organizational framework and intellectual and material resources for the development of sensor-related technologies in NYS by facilitating partnership between industry and university research, the most important outcome being new jobs and improved profitability and competitiveness of NYS businesses.

The mission of Long Island Angel Network, Inc. and its programs is to provide its members with exposure to, and access to early stage capital for, Long Island-based companies or companies that are moving to Long Island and are in need of capital.
The Long Island Angel Network fulfills its mission by providing a forum in which its members can evaluate and exchange information about investment opportunities in early-stage and emerging growth companies and providing administrative support as its members help these companies grow. LIAN consists of individual angel investors interested in financing privately held companies or ventures typically at an early stage of development. It is anticipated that most deals will be in the $100,000 to $2 million range.
